About us

Beverley Joint Sixth Form comprises of the Sixth Forms from Beverley High School and Beverley Grammar School. In most subjects offered by the Joint Sixth, teaching is shared equally by the staff at Beverley High and Beverley Grammar School. To minimise the amount of travelling the timetable is arranged so that most students spend a day at one school, followed by a whole day at the other.

  • What Makes Us Different

Beverley Joint Sixth Form comprises of the Sixth Forms from Beverley High School and Beverley Grammar School. In most subjects offered by the Joint Sixth, teaching is shared equally by the staff at Beverley High and Beverley Grammar School. To minimise the amount of travelling the timetable is arranged so that most students spend a day at one school, followed by a whole day at the other.

  • Learner Support

The student services team include the Assistant Headteacher in charge of the Sixth Form and two pastoral managers who work with your personal tutor to guide you through school life happily and successfully. We are proud of our pastoral system, which emphatically puts students first. Furthermore, the school has a child protection policy to support our students. This includes the appropriate screening of staff on appointment.

    We additionally support students by:

    ·     Reviewing progress

    ·     Supporting students with special requirements

    ·     Providing careers and further education advice and guidance

Sixth Form students have a large team of staff to help them through their post 16 studies. The Sixth Form Team consists of Mrs Walters, who is the Head of Sixth Form spending time at each site on a daily basis and two full time Sixth Form Pastoral Managers (Mrs Mayfield at Beverley High School and Miss Challis at Beverley Grammar School). In addition there are 14 Tutors and several support tutors.

Students belong to mixed forms and have a form tutor at each site to provide the necessary communication link between staff and sixth form students. The tutors support and counsel them through their time in the Sixth Form and are there to give help and advice. Students also attend tutorials once a week, which are delivered by one of their form tutors.

Throughout the two years you will also review and record your progress and targets with your tutor in Support and Guidance Periods and formal assessment reports will be sent home.

In addition to your academic studies there are many opportunities for you to become involved in activities in school and outside of school. The sixth form has a very active medical and law society, a social committee and many enrichment opportunities. Most of our students are involved in the paired reading, spelling and maths programme and some support lessons lower down the school as well as getting involved in charity work and attending a variety of courses and conferences that are open to them.

  • Applying for Courses

Please select 4 choices when submitting your application as this is the minimum required for studying in Year 12 at AS level.

  • Activities

In the Sixth Form there will be the opportunity to choose from various enrichment activities which are intended to enhance your Sixth Form Programme and provide a welcome break from the rigours of academic study. It should also enable you to broaden your interests and demonstrate reliability and responsibility in your work within the school, whilst providing you with the opportunity to mix socially with new friends

In addition there is a Sixth Form Student Leadership Team, Student Voice and Social Committee and it is expected that Sixth Form students will organise a range of social activities including, visits, trips to theme parks, debates, prom, concerts etc. If you have any ideas for social events and like to get involved in organisation your input will be welcomed.
