About us

Ron Dearing UTC will open in a brand new building in Hull city centre in September 2017 and offer students a totally new and unique way to learn.

Backed by Hull University and the region’s leading employers, the UTC will provide young people with an employer-driven academic, technical and vocational education that will significantly improve their higher education and employment opportunities and fast-track them into the careers of their dreams.

The building will be equipped with the most advanced technology, focusing on our specialisms of Digital Technology and Mechatronics – a combination of IT and engineering.

Students can join the UTC in Year 10 or Year 12 and we are recruiting NOW for September 2017.

    Our specialisms of Mechatronics and Digital Technology have been carefully chosen by our key employer sponsors because these are the areas that they need to recruit to in terms of their future employees.

    Mechatronics is an exciting, multi-disciplinary field of engineering that includes a combination of systems engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering telecommunications engineering, control engineering and computer engineering. It involves the research, design, implementation and maintenance of intelligent engineered products and processes enabled by the integration of mechanical, electronic, computer and software engineering technologies. Examples of mechatronic systems are antilock braking systems (ABS), robots, digitally-controlled combustion engines, machine tools with self-adaptive tools, contact-free magnetic bearings and automated guided vehicles.

    Digital Technology is changing the world. It plays an integral part in everything – from the way we work, to how we spend our leisure time to how businesses operate. The next big technological innovation is always just around the corner. The rapid pace of change in Digital Technology shows no sign of slowing, ensuring people with releeant digital skills and practical work experience are highly sought after. The number of people employed in the ICT and Digital Technology sector is forecast to increase by 15% by 2020 – that’s a lot of jobs!
