St Mary's Roman Catholic International Sports College has a unique balance of traditional values, progressive teaching and innovative learning across the 11 - 19 age range.
St Mary's Sixth Form College aims to provide the best post sixteen education in a committed Caring environment.
We present an educational programme which we believe will be appropriate to your needs as a student preparing to enter university or the world of work.
We offer a range of courses for students of all abilities and we have pastoral structures that allow students to achieve their full potential.
An open access admissions policy operates for entry to the Sixth Form. Although we are a Roman Catholic College, students of other religious faiths and, indeed none, are welcome to apply as long as they are supportive of our Christian ethos. All students will be asked to sign a Learning Agreement and other registration documents which make reference to this.
What Makes Us Different
St Mary's fosters an inclusive community where relationships are built on encouragement, concern, respect, forgiveness and reconciliation. Joining St Mary's Sixth Form offers a certain amount of personal freedom in a more adult environment, within a supportive framework. Staff are always available to listen to and counsel students.
St Mary's also offers an ongoing and highly structured programme of preparation for Higher Education so that our students are well informed and confident when it comes to choosing and applying to college and university.
Since achieving specialised status the college has gained the prestigious Sport England Sports mark Award in recognition of a quality programme of Physical Education and school of sport.
The college believes that pastoral care for students plays invaluable role in the Sixth Form. There is a dedicated non teaching team that manages the pastoral and academic welfare of the students. This team offers support tailored to individual student needs, giving the best opportunity for maximum progress and achievement.
St Mary's boasts a great Music and Drama tradition. There are several music concerts each year, giving the hundreds of students who enjoy making music opportunity to perform in public. There is at least one major drama production per year. Students also have the opportunity to study for L.A.M.D.A qualifications.
Opportunities for Leadership
The college offers a House System where House Captains are elected by and from members of the Sixth Form. These captains take the lead in helping to organise sporting, cultural and social activities.
The Sixth Form also has a committee where each tutor group will elect a member to serve on the Sixth Form Committee, which will meet to discuss issues of particular importance to the sixth form.
School trips include visits to the theatre, locally and inLondon. There are annual exchanges with schools in Belgium, Germany and Spain as well as an annual visit to France. The RE department run a yearly trip for the Sixth Form to New York.
The careers and Guidance department organises visits to army and navy establishments.
The college offers an extension range of extra curricular sporting activities where many students gain individual and team honour at local, county and national level. Links have been made with local sports teams and clubs including hockey, rugby union, gymnastics and athletics clubs.
The college also extends links between families, sports bodies and communities, sharing resources and developing and spreading good practice, providing a structure through which young people can progress to a careers in sport and PE.
We have access to out-standing facilities in our state of the art Optimum Sports Hall - ‘The Academy’, which incorporates a high-tech ‘Techno gym’ well-ness system and a floodlit multi-use games area.
The college has a dedicated Sixth Form block and post 16 students benefit from a Head of Student Support and Sixth Form Support Assistants. In addition there is a dedicated administration team including a Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA) Coordinator.
